The Band bola kanadsko-americká rocková skupina, ktorá zásadne ovplyvnila vývoj roots rocku a americana. Ich hudba prepájala prvky folk rocku, country, blues a rhythm & blues a inšpirovala umelcov ako Eric Clapton, Elton John či Grateful Dead.
Kompilácia Music From Big Pink / The Band vyšla v roku 2000 u vydavateľstva EMI ako dvojdiskový set v plastovom obale. Obsahuje 39 nahrávok, vrátane skladieb z debutového albumu Music From Big Pink („The Weight“, „Tears of Rage“, „This Wheel's on Fire“) a druhého albumu The Band („The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down“, „Up on Cripple Creek“, „Rag Mama Rag“). Súčasťou sú aj doteraz nevydané outtakes a alternatívne verzie, napríklad „Yazoo Street Scandal“ alebo demonahrávky „Orange Juice Blues (Blues for Breakfast)“ a „Ferdinand the Imposter“.
V dobe vydania tejto kompilácie tvorili The Band Rick Danko (basová gitara, husle, spev), Levon Helm (bicie, gitara, mandolína, spev), Garth Hudson (klávesy, akordeón, saxofón) a Stan Szelest.
