Big Country je škótska rocková kapela založená v roku 1981 v Dunfermline. Ich zvuk, ovplyvnený škótskou folkovou a vojenskou hudbou, sa vyznačuje špecifickým gitarovým soundom evokujúcim zvuk gajdí a husieľ. Do širšieho povedomia sa dostali ako predstavitelia new wave a alternatívneho rocku osemdesiatych rokov.
Album Without the Aid of a Safety Net vyšiel v roku 1994 ako prvý živý album kapely a zachytáva ich koncert v glasgowskom Barrowland Ballroom z 29. decembra 1993. Trojalbum na vinyle prináša skladby z vtedy aktuálnej štúdiovej platne The Buffalo Skinners, vrátane Alone a Ships, vedľa osvedčených hitov z predchádzajúceho obdobia ako In a Big Country, Look Away alebo Fields of Fire. Nechýbajú ani covery Rockin' in the Free World a Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black).
V čase nahrávania tvorili Big Country Stuart Adamson (spev, gitara), Bruce Watson (gitara, spev), Tony Butler (basgitara) a Mark Brzezicki (bicie).
