Mariah Careyová je americká speváčka a textárka, ktorá sa preslávila v roku 1990 svojím debutovým albumom. Patrí k najúspešnejším interpretom v oblasti R&B, popu a gospelu, s charakteristickým viacoktávovým hlasovým rozsahom.
Album Merry Christmas vyšiel v októbri 1994 vo vydavateľstve Columbia Records ako štvrtý štúdiový album Mariah Careyovej. Obsahuje ako coververzie klasických vianočných kolied (Silent Night, O Holy Night, Joy to the World), tak aj originálne skladby, ktoré Careyová napísala v spolupráci s producentom Walterom Afanasieffom. Album obsahuje 29 nahrávok na dvoch CD, druhý disk prináša živé verzie piesní z koncertu v Katedrále sv. Jána Božského v New Yorku a bonusové tracky vrátane remixov. Pieseň All I Want for Christmas Is You sa stala jedným z najpredávanejších singlov v histórii a celosvetovo najobľúbenejšou modernou vianočnou skladbou.
