Celtic Frost pochádzali zo Švajčiarska a patria k najvýznamnejším priekopníkom extreme metalu. Aktívni od roku 1984 do roku 1993 a opätovne od roku 2001 do roku 2008, ovplyvnili black, death i doom metalovú scénu osemdesiatych a deväťdesiatych rokov. Vo svojich začiatkoch sa inšpirovali kapelami ako Venom, Black Sabbath či Judas Priest, ale tiež gothic rockovými skupinami ako Bauhaus či Siouxsie & the Banshees.
Danse Macabre je rozsiahla kompilácia vydaná v roku 2022 u vydavateľstva Noise, ktorá mapuje rané tvorivé obdobie skupiny. Box set obsahuje celkom 46 skladieb na piatich diskoch — prvé tri štúdiové albumy a prvé EP doplnené o bonusy a piaty disk so vzácnymi nahrávkami zo skúšobne. Súčasťou balenia sú aj plagát, kniha, odznak a nášivka. Medzi zvýraznenými skladbami nájdete Into the Crypts of Rays, Circle of the Tyrants, Mexican Radio či Tristesses de la Lune.
