Britská hard rocková kapela Deep Purple vznikla v Londýne v roku 1968. Sú považovaní za priekopníkov heavy metalu a moderného hard rocku a ich hudobný štýl v sebe nesie prvky psychedelického rocku, progresívneho rocku i blues rocku. Spoločne s Led Zeppelin a Black Sabbath tvoria tzv. „nesväté trio britského hard rocku prvej polovice 70. rokov“. Celosvetovo predali vyše 100 miliónov albumov.
Limitovaný box set Splat! vychádza na CD. Deep Purple patria medzi najhlučnejšie kapely na svete – v roku 1975 boli za toto označenie zapísaní do Guinnessovej knihy rekordov po koncerte v londýnskom Rainbow Theatre.
