Jethro Tull je britská rocková skupina, ktorej hudba od počiatku kombinuje prvky blues, folku, progresívneho rocku a klasickej hudby. Charakteristická je nezameniteľným spevom a výraznou úlohou flauty v podaní frontmana Iana Andersona.
Album The Broadsword and the Beast vyšiel v apríli 1982 u vydavateľstva Chrysalis na vinyle. Ide o štrnásty štúdiový album kapely, ktorý spája folkový štýl predchádzajúcej dekády s dominantným syntezátorovým zvukom osemdesiatych rokov – akustické nástroje dopĺňajú elektronické plochy. Nahrávka obsahuje desať skladieb, medzi najvýraznejšie patria Beastie, Broadsword či Fallen on Hard Times. Album bol nahraný v zime 1981 a prvýkrát v histórii kapely sa na produkcii podieľal externý producent Paul Samwell-Smith.
V čase vydania albumu tvorili Jethro Tull Ian Anderson (akustická gitara, flauta, harmonika, spev, mandolína), Martin Barre (akustická a elektrická gitara, zobcová flauta), Dave Pegg (basová gitara, mandolína), Gerry Conway (bicie), Peter-John Vettese (klávesy), Paul Burgess (bicie), Scott Hammond a Tony Williams (basgitara).
