The Kinks patria medzi najvplyvnejšie britské rockové skupiny 60. rokov. Londýnsku skupinu založili v roku 1963 bratia Ray a Dave Daviesovci spoločne s Petom Quaifom. Stali sa dôležitou súčasťou Britskej invázie a ovplyvnili generácie gitarových kapiel vrátane The Jam či The Pretenders.
Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One vyšiel 27. novembra 1970 ako ôsmy štúdiový album skupiny. Dnes vychádza v reedícii na dvojkompaktnom disku u vydavateľstva BMG. Koncepčný album satiricky skúma hudobný priemysel — vydavateľov, odbory, tlač, manažérov i život na cestách. Album znamenal rozšírenie zostavy na päťčlennú formáciu s príchodom klávesistu Johna Goslinga. Nahrávka obsahuje celkom 33 skladieb vrátane alternatívnych mixov a živých verzií, medzi nimi single Lola, Apeman či Powerman.
V čase vydania albumu tvorili skupinu Ray Davies, Dave Davies, Mick Avory, John Gosling a John Beecham.
