Diana Rossová patrí medzi najvýznamnejšie americké speváčky soulu a popu. V 60. rokoch bola frontmankou skupiny The Supremes, ktorá sa stala najúspešnejšou kapelou Motown a jednou z komerčne najúspešnejších ženských skupín vôbec. Po prechode na sólovú dráhu začiatkom 70. rokov si vybudovala pozíciu superstar, majsterky štýlov od soulu cez disco až po jazz. Získala trinásť nominácií na cenu Grammy, Zlatý glóbus i ocenenie Tony.
Kompilácia Love & Life: The Very Best of Diana Ross vyšla roku 2001 u vydavateľstva EMI ako dvojdiskový set s 41 skladbami. Prvé CD prináša energické hity ako Chain Reaction, klasiky The Supremes (Baby Love, Where Did Our Love Go, Stop! In the Name of Love), disco skladby I'm Coming Out a Upside Down i neskoršie nahrávky vrátane remixu Until We Meet Again. Druhé CD stavia na baladickom materiáli a filmových témach, napríklad Theme from mahogany (do you know where you're going to) či Touch Me in the Morning. Kolekcia pokrýva jej tvorbu od šesťdesiatych rokov až do konca 90. rokov a ponúka prehľad desaťročí slávnych hitov i menej známych nahrávok.
