Dream Theater je americká progresívna metalová skupina, ktorá patrí medzi najúspešnejšie a najvplyvnejšie kapely tohto žánru. Od svojho založenia v roku 1985 sa preslávila technickou bravúrou, komplexnými kompozíciami a fúziou prvkov heavy metalu, progresívneho rocku a fusion.
Album Distance Over Time vyšiel 22. februára 2019 u vydavateľstva Inside Out Music ako štrnásta štúdiová platňa skupiny. Ide o sedemdiskový Blu-ray box obsahujúci 72 nahrávok — okrem samotných deviatich skladieb albumu prináša ich inštrumentálne mixy a animované verzie. Kapela si kládla za cieľ vytvoriť ťažší, surovejší materiál než pri predchádzajúcom albume The Astonishing z roku 2016. Singlové skladby Untethered Angel, Fall Into the Light a Paralyzed vyšli postupne pred oficiálnym vydaním a k prvým dvom boli natočené videoklipy. Distance Over Time sa stal doteraz najúspešnejším albumom Dream Theater v rebríčkoch — obsadil prvú priečku v Nemecku a Švajčiarsku a dosiahol top 10 pozíciu v 19 krajinách.
V čase vydania albumu tvorili Dream Theater John Petrucci (gitara, sprievodné vokály), James LaBrie (spev), John Myung (basgitara, Chapman stick), Jordan Rudess (klávesy, continuum, lap steel guitar) a Mike Mangini (bicie, perkusie).
