Jethro Tull je britská rocková skupina, ktorá sa sformovala v roku 1967. Jej vedúcou osobnosťou je Ian Anderson, spevák, multiinštrumentalista a skladateľ, ktorého charakteristická hra na priečnu flautu a surový vokálny prejav sú nezameniteľné. Hudba kapely kombinuje prvky progresívneho rocku, folk rocku a hard rocku s vplyvmi klasickej a tradičnej keltskej hudby. Vďaka albumu Stand Up sa v roku 1969 dostali na čelo britskej hitparády; nesmrteľnú slávu im priniesol predovšetkým album Aqualung z roku 1971.
Bursting Out je prvý živý album skupiny, vydaný vydavateľstvom Chrysalis v roku 1978 ako dvojalbum. Nahrávka vznikla počas európskeho turné Heavy Horses v máji a júni 1978 a zachytáva Jethro Tull na vrchole ich folkrockovej éry. Album obsahuje celkom 18 skladieb, vrátane klasík ako Aqualung, Locomotive Breath a dvanásťminútovej skladby Thick as a Brick. Nechýba ani flautová improvizácia prepájajúca tradičnú skladbu God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen a Bachovu Bourée.
Na albume sa podieľali Ian Anderson (spev, flauta, gitara, harmonika, mandolína), Martin Barre (gitara), John Evan (klávesy), Barriemore Barlow (bicie), John Glascock (basgitara), Dee Palmer (klávesy, saxofón), Scott Hammond a Tony Williams (basgitara).
