John Lanchbery patril k najvýznamnejším dirigentom baletnej hudby v druhej polovici 20. storočia, známy svojimi nahrávkami klasických baletov pre popredné svetové orchestre. Špecializoval sa na interpretáciu romantickej a klasickej baletnej hudby.
Toto CD prináša kompletnú nahrávku baletu Giselle francúzskeho skladateľa Adolpha Adama z roku 1841, jedného z pilierov romantického baletného repertoáru. Nahrávka zachytáva oba akty diela – od úvodných vidieckych scén cez dramatický finálny obraz prvého dejstva až po fantastický druhý akt s tancami víl Wilis. Dielo je dodnes hojne uvádzané na baletných scénach po celom svete pre svoju lyrickú melodickú krásu a emocionálnu hĺbku príbehu o dievčati, ktoré zomiera láskou a po smrti chráni svojho milého pred pomstou lesných duchov.
